Project Update: Radon Protection Verification Completed at Private School, Colwyn Bay
We are pleased to report the successful completion of gas membrane installation verification works at a Private School, located on in Colwyn Bay, Wales. With installation works carried out by JCW Gas Membranes Ltd and independent verification undertaken by Liam England (TGPV) and Niall Hogan.
The site is situated in an area identified by UK Radon maps as having a 5–10% maximum radon potential, requiring appropriate protective measures to be installed and independently verified. The specified solution for the project was the JUTA GP1 Gas Barrier, selected to provide effective resistance against radon and ground gas ingress.
Verification works were completed across 16 individual inspection visits. Inspections covered a wide range of critical installation details.
- Plots 1–55: Lineouts
- Plots 3, 4, 6, 9–14, 33–39, 41–44 and 50–59: Double-sided butyl tape installed beneath timber frame sole plates
Each verification visit involved a combination of visual inspection, mechanical point stress testing, and air lance testing to ensure the integrity and continuity of the gas barrier. Where defects were identified, these were promptly rectified by JCW Gas Membranes Ltd, enabling every inspected plot to achieve full sign-off.
Final Status
The installation has been confirmed as fully compliant with CIRIA C735 and BRE Report BR211 and planning conditions have been discharged.
